Help Your Local Community
At Lawson we are keen to get involved in our local community and we have known the chairperson of Woolwell in Bloom, Mrs S Lewis- Coleman, for a while now. It felt right to feature the charity in our property magazine and shout about the work they are doing for the Woolwell community, and they have been doing a lot of work.
In 2018 Mrs Lewis-Coleman was inspired by a competition run by the BBC and took the idea of Woolwell in Bloom to the Parish Council and they loved it.
If you have driven or walked into Woolwell I am sure you have seen the Well as you first enter the village, a focal point of the garden. As a business that sells homes in Woolwell it’s lovely to see the community take pride in the area they live, and it’s a real selling point for new buyers. Unfortunately, Covid hit and like a lot of businesses things came to a standstill.
However, they came back with a bang entering a competition with the Royal Horticultural Society in the “It’s your Neighbour” category and received a Level 5 Outstanding, the highest mark you can achieve and extremely rare for a first-time entry. Not stopping there they achieved Silver Gilt in 2022 and 2023 for the “Village Category”.

Woolwell in Bloom have continued to grow working with the Woolwell Community Centre introducing an after-school club growing flowers and vegetables. In 2024 they won Gold and a trophy for Best Village in Devon, this is an amazing achievement and one to be proud of.
We would like to say a huge congratulations to Woolwell in Bloom for all the hard work and dedication they have put in to making the Woolwell community a brighter place to be.
We asked Mrs Lewis-Coleman what their plans are for Woolwell in Bloom 2025, and they have an exciting project they would like to get started on, Junior Bloomer Group and they will need funding to get this group started. This is such a fantastic local charity that benefits our local community, if you live in or around Woolwell or run a business in the area, let’s help get this group started by donating here.
